On Saturday, October 25, the 1979 comedy, BREAKING AWAY will screen at the Fremont Theatre at 7:00pm, with the film’s star Dennis Christopher in attendance. The film celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and is a timeless classic that ranks high on many lists. It’s #8 on AFI’s 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time and #8 on Sports Illustrated list of Top 50 Best Sports Movies. Dennis Christopher will do a Q&A after the movie and will also be at a meet-and-greet reception, with details to be announced soon. Tickets for the film are $12/$10 in advance on our website, $15/$13 at the box office day of show.

Mission San Antonio de Padua will be presenting the second event in the Mission’s “Our Treasure…Shared” series of free lectures and concerts. A Roman Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. in the 201 year old Mission San Antonio Great Church. This event will feature music performed by the New World Baroque Orchestra and Choir, under the direction of John Warren. Following Mass there will be a procession to the Mission cemetery where a Salinan tribal ceremony will be performed. At 3:30 p.m. there will be a presentation of A Praise Song for a Native American Hero – NU NA DA UL TSUN YI, a storytelling with music and verse, presented by the Arete fund. Poetry and drum will be performed by Dianne de Laet, with Narration by Ryland Kelly, Tom Pew and Fr. Martin Mager. There is no cost to attend. A light reception will follow.

On Saturday, November 22nd, the SLOIFF will present “A Silent Night” with a screening of the 1919 silent comedy/drama, DADDY LONG LEGS along with a Silent Auction to benefit the upcoming 2015 Festival. The film will be accompanied by the Malibu Silent Film Orchestra, led by composer/violist Maria Newman, with an original score played by a 7-piece orchestra. DADDY LONG LEGS was one of Mary Pickford’s most well-known and popular films.The event will take place at the SLO Masonic Lodge beginning at 6:30pm with a food and wine reception and the silent auction.Advance tickets are $35/$30 on our website slofilmfest.org($45/$40 at door) and include food, wine, silent auction and the film. The tradition will find Mrs. Santa Claus and other costumed characters gathering at the downtown city park bandstand at 5:30 p.m. They will be joined there by townspeople dressed warmly. The Cancer Support Community will be lighting the downtown City Park trees. Just before 6 p.m. candles and songbooks will be distributed. When the clock tower strikes 6 p.m., Mrs. Claus will throw the giant light switch, and the downtown lights in trees, shop windows and buildings will illuminate all at once. The Mayor and other city officials will speak, followed by candlelight caroling with musical accompaniment. Free cookies and hot chocolate will conclude the evening’s festivities.

The traditional light parade marks the arrival of Santa Claus in downtown Paso Robles. Santa will be in residence at the Holiday House in the downtown city park until Christmas Eve. The hours are posted on the Holiday House and on www.pasoroblesdowntown.org. The parade, which starts at 7:00 p.m., travels north on Spring Street from 10th Street to 14th Street, east to Park Street, then around the downtown city park on Pine Street to 11th.
