Join us for dinner and see why his slow cooked BBQ, smoked on an open pit, has put Driftwood, Texas on the map for all BBQ connoisseurs in the nation. He’ll be making an assortment of appetizers. Brisket, sausage, pork ribs and turkey will be bar-be-qued on an open pit and smoked. There will be a fresh selection of sides – potato salad, slaw, beans and bread. Ending with his special peach and blackberry cobbler. On Saturday, October 25, the 1979 comedy, BREAKING AWAY will screen at the Fremont Theatre at 7:00pm, with the film’s star Dennis Christopher in attendance. The film celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and is a timeless classic that ranks high on many lists. It’s #8 on AFI’s 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time and #8 on Sports Illustrated list of Top 50 Best Sports Movies. Dennis Christopher will do a Q&A after the movie and will also be at a meet-and-greet reception, with details to be announced soon. Mission San Antonio de Padua will be presenting the second event in the Mission’s “Our Treasure…Shared” series of free lectures and concerts. A Roman Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. in the 201 year old Mission San Antonio Great Church. This event will feature music performed by the New World Baroque Orchestra and Choir, under the direction of John Warren. Following Mass there will be a procession to the Mission cemetery where a Salinan tribal ceremony will be performed. At 3:30 p.m. there will be a presentation of A Praise Song for a Native American Hero – NU NA DA UL TSUN YI, a storytelling with music and verse, presented by the Arete fund. Poetry and drum will be performed by Dianne de Laet, with Narration by Ryland Kelly, Tom Pew and Fr. Martin Mager. There is no cost to attend. A light reception will follow.
