Come to the pristine Valley of the Oaks and enjoy a step backward to the era of the California Missions. Mission San Antonio de Padua will be hosting its annual Mission Days event on Saturday April 11, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Parking and Admission is $10/car. Mission era food will be offered for $10/plate with water and soft drinks also available. There will be historical re-enactors in costume portraying soldiers, artisans, vaqueros, musicians and dancers. Mission crafts and activities will be demonstrated, including weaving, rope making, candle making, acorn grinding, tortilla making, and much more. Members of the New World Baroque Orchestra and Choir, under the direction of John Warren, will play original music composed for Mission San Antonio. Artists will also be present to display and offer for sale their original artwork. Mission San Antonio de Padua, the third oldest Spanish mission in California, was founded by Junipero Serra in 1771. The Mission is a state historical landmark and is on the national register of historic places. The Mission remains an active Catholic parish and retreat center. Mission San Antonio is surrounded by Fort Hunter Liggett, and is conveniently reached by publicly accessible roads. The Mission’s address is 1 Mission Road in Jolon, in southern Monterey County. We will explore Syrah originally sourced from France's Southern and Northen Rhône terroirs, their clonal attribution, calcareous soils, and low yields of Paso Robls' Adelaida Disrict. You can support the youth of our community by attending the Paso Robles Youth Sports Council’s WILD, WILD WEST Casino Night Barbeque Dinner Fundraiser. It’s a night full of great fun and loads of free prizes!! It happens Saturday, April 25th at 6 pm at Centennial Park, 600 Nickerson Drive, Paso Robles. $45 gets you a tri-tip dinner, 2 drink tickets, entry into the casino and chips for gambling. The Optimist Club of Paso Robles is holding their 15th Annual Chinese Auction, Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Paso Robles Event Center, located at the Mid State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles. Doors open at 5:00 pm. The cost is $40.00 per person and includes a buffet style Chinese dinner provided by the China Gourmet Restaurant in Paso Robles and entertainment by the Cal Poly Chinese Dancers. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase at the event. There are four different ways to win many of the gifts and services donated by local business from all over the North County. There will be a “Silent Auction”, a “Ticket Auction”, a “Live Auction”, and the “Chinese Quarter Auction”, similar to Bingo, using quarters to start the bidding, and most gifts are won for only a few quarters. This is truly a unique and entertaining event which has to be seen to believe. The Chinese Auction is the main fundraiser for the Optimist Club of Paso Robles, and the funds generated from this event will go back into the community in the form of scholarships for graduating seniors, support for local youth organizations, and funding other youth programs and activities throughout the North County. The Paso Robles Senior Center will be hosting another annual volunteer of the year celebration May 2 at the Senior Center patio grounds. We ask that local resident of Paso Robles stop into the Senior Center and fill out a nomination form and help promote good deeds! The winner will be given a plaque of recognition and celebrated for their unselfish acts to our community. The tickets are $8.00 per person and $10.00 the day of the BBQ. This year’s Tour, titled “Lighting Up the East” highlights Eastern San Luis Obispo County. Tour stops include: Lazy JT Land and Cattle, Topaz Solar Farm, La Panza Ranch, CDF La Panza Station and Sculpterra Winery. Each tour participant receive's a BBQ lunch, a goodie bag and wine tasting.
